Specifically, Ito was interviewed by Anime News Network. There, he shared his thoughts on the anime’s upcoming end, as well as some of his favorite memories of voicing Mob over the past six years.
Mob Psycho 100 Anime’s Final Season
In case you’re unfamiliar, Mob Psycho 100 is a TV anime by studio Bones that’s based on the manga of the same name by ONE, the creator of One Punch Man. It was serialized in Ura Sunday Comics from April 2012 to December 2017. Its story follows Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama, an unassuming middle-school student who is a powerful esper, unbeknownst to pretty much everyone. His powers are heightened by emotions, so he suppresses his emotions to keep his powers in check. Mob simply wants to live a normal life, but his powers threaten to surface when his emotions get heightened during his middle school life. It doesn’t help that he soon encounters other espers along the way. The anime began with the first season which aired in the Summer 2016 season. It was followed by the second season in Winter 2019, and the final season is airing in the ongoing Fall 2022 season. As Season 3 is the last one of the anime, Ito mentioned in his interview that he felt a little sad. But he said that he is happy and honored to get to play Mob knowing that the anime will get a proper conclusion, especially as other anime shows don’t reach the end of their manga source materials. Mob’s VA on Scene That Made him Cry
Aside from sharing his thoughts on the series’ end, Mob’s VA also mentioned a specific Mob Psycho 100 scene that made him cry. This particular scene is from Season 2 in the episode entitled, Poor, Lonely, Whitey, where Reigen had a press conference. Ito said that Mob’s dialogue in that scene moved him. If you’ve seen the second season, you probably understand why this moment made him cry. After all, this part of the anime is an emotional one as it was a major event in Mob and Reigen’s relationship. Another thing that Ito mentioned in the interview is how inspiring he found Mob’s growth to be in the anime. He especially highlighted the third season as its initial episodes saw Mob look for solutions on his own, which is a far cry from his state in Season 1. You can witness the conclusion to Mob’s story in Mob Psycho 100 Season 3, which is currently airing with new episodes being released every week on Crunchyroll.
