Recently-minted DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn recently opened his own Mastodon page where he made his first post by sharing an image of well-known Superman villain Lobo along with the caption “Glad to be here.” While Gunn didn’t specify what his post exactly meant, a lot of fans are speculating that the DC Studios co-head is hinting that the character is likely going to be the villain for the Man of Steel sequel.
In case you’re not familiar with the character, Lobo is an alien born on the planet of Czarina and works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. He usually shows up as a Superman villain in the comics. He is an expert marksman and possesses superhuman strength and durability similar to the hero. While we don’t know yet whether they are actually setting up Lobo to be the main antagonist of the sequel, it is an exciting prospect nonetheless and a lot of fans are seemingly game for the idea based on the responses online ever since Gunn made the post. However, the project is still in early development so it is hard to tell at this moment whether the character does end up becoming the villain of the sequel and it is also likely that Gunn’s post doesn’t really mean anything. There is a possibility that Lobo will show up in a different DC project instead. For now, all we can do is wait for more news and updates regarding Gunn’s plans with Peter Safran about the future of the DCU and who they’ll tap to spearhead the highly-anticipated sequel.
