Speaking recently with CinemaBlend, Cavill defended their decision of choosing the classic Williams theme as the music cue for his cameo in Black Adam and explained that it’s all because of the familiarity since a lot of the audience associates the character with that iconic music. “John Williams’ theme song is obviously incredibly important to the character. It’s something which resonates with the character and everything time I think anyone in the world hears that, I think a large portion of the world who hears that will recognize it immediately as Superman and feel a certain way about it, and I do think it’s wonderful,” the actor explained.
While some fans might be disappointed that the film didn’t go with Zimmer’s score for Cavill’s much-awaited comeback, the actor gave a great point about how the classic theme has more familiarity amongst the audience and the music cue gives them an instant recognition about the character’s presence. The use of Williams’ theme doesn’t also indicate that Cavill’s future appearances will also use it and this might just be a one-time moment in order to announce to the world that the character is back on the big screen after years of absence and waiting from fans who have been hoping for his return. While there are no official details yet regarding the plans for the character’s next step in the DCU after his return, at least we know now that Cavill is donning the cape again and the Man of Steel is back for truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.
