Now, George Takei, one of Shatner’s surviving Star Trek co-stars, has responded to the actor’s latest remarks during a recent interview with The Guardian. While he was reluctant to talk about the actor, he also did not mince any words in his response. “I know he came to London to promote his book and talked about me wanting publicity by using his name. So I decided I don’t need his name to get publicity. I have much more substantial subject matter that I want to get publicity for, so I’m not going to refer to Bill in this interview at all,” he said. “Although I just did. He’s just a cantankerous old man and I’m going to leave him to his devices. I’m not going to play his game.”
When asked to clarify his words about describing Shatner as a “cantankerous old man,” Takei added, “He was self-involved. He enjoyed being the centre of attention. He wanted everyone to kowtow to him.” Based on the comments and responses that we’ve been seeing, it is pretty clear that the feud between the two actors will not settle anytime soon, which might be disappointing for some of the fans who are always hoping that the cast of their beloved show is always getting along. However, alas, their issue still goes on. Takei recently made his return to the Star Trek franchise during the recent season of Lower Decks when he appeared in one episode to reprise his role of Capt. Hikaru Sulu.
