Announced last year, Universes Beyond was created to bring popular properties into the world of Magic: The Gathering. So far, we’ve seen crossovers with properties like The Lord of the Rings, Warhammer 40,000, Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, Street Fighter, Fortnite, and Doctor Who. During PulseCon over the weekend, Wizards also revealed that Transformers characters will be featured in the upcoming The Brothers’ War set. Hasbro also announced more financial details on the success of its gaming brands. According to executives, the 2022 “tentpole release” sets of MTG cards have earned at least $100 million in revenue, making the collectible card game on track to become Hasbro’s first brand to generate $1 billion in annual revenue all by itself. Wizards didn’t share additional details about how the crossover Final Fantasy and Assassin’s Creed MTG cards will be sold. So far, the Universes Beyond cards have taken different product types, including pre-constructed Commander decks and print-on-demand Secret Lair drops. Both Final Fantasy and Assassin’s Creed are major franchises with many games, characters, and story elements to choose from in bringing the properties to Magic: The Gathering, but Wizards haven’t shared any hints on which ones will be featured on MTG cards.
