Hideo Kojima recently spoke to IGN about his current projects and the future of Kojima Productions. When asked about what he is hoping his legacy will be like in the next century, Kojima stated that he doesn’t exactly want to leave. “I’ll keep leading so long as I’m around, and all that matters to me is that our roots when it comes to creation are kept intact. But you know, I’ll probably become an AI and stick around,” Kojima said. “You need to be stimulated in lots of different ways if you want to keep creating new things, so I imagine I’ll keep collaborating with others and taking in new things even if I’m an AI.”
This may have been a fantasy several years ago but there’s a huge possibility that it could happen for Hideo Kojima in the near future. Needless to say, it would be cool if he could continue working well beyond his physical years. Interestingly, Kojima also discussed the development of the Death Stranding live-action adaptation. The Metal Gear Solid developer shared how he ended up working with Hammerstone Studios on the project. “I was on video calls with lots of people in Hollywood every week beginning last year, and not just for Death Stranding. I received a lot of offers, but my intention from the start was never to make a blockbuster film,” Kojima said. “Alex Lebovici from Hammerstone Studios shared my vision with regards to that. There were a lot of pitches to make a large-scale movie with famous actors and flashy explosions, but what good would explosions be in Death Stranding?” “Making money isn’t something I’m focused on at all, either,” he continued. “I’m aiming for a more arthouse approach, and the only person who offered to make a film like that was Alex Lebovici, which makes me think he’s a rather unusual type.” The Death Stranding movie is still in development.
