Deadline confirms that the still-untitled fourth Cloverfield film is now in development at Paramount Pictures. The report reveals that Babak Anvari has joined the project to direct the sequel while Joe Barton will write the script. J.J. Abrams, who had produced the first three movies, will return with Bad Robot, along with Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen. Additionally, The Batman director Matt Reeves will serve as executive producer along with Bryan Burk and Drew Goddard.
The premise of Cloverfield 4 has not yet been disclosed but J.J. Abrams had previously teased that the film will be a true sequel to the first movie, which was directed by Reeves. Hopefully, this will mean that we will finally learn more about the mysterious creatures that decapitated the Statue of Liberty in the original movie. Babak Anvari made his directorial debut with the 2016 Persian-language horror film Under the Shadow before making the English-language feature Wounds. His most recent project is the Netflix film I Came By. Cloverfield has been a complex franchise and although it only consists of three movies, the two sequels are only loosely connected to the original film. 10 Cloverfield Lane was originally set to be an adaptation of a script called The Cellar before Bad Robot produced it to become a sequel to the 2008 movie. Likewise, The Cloverfield Paradox was initially unrelated to the original film. For now, the still-untitled Cloverfield 4 is still in early development and has not yet been given an official release date. However, we could be getting updates on the project soon. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
