Speaking with Esquire, Winston Duke, who plays M’Baku, was asked about his co-star’s controversy where he denied that such a situation ever happened on the set of the film and iterated that he is not aware of the actress’ vaccination status when they were working. “One, it’s not anything that’s ever come up,” he said. “It’s also not anything I’ve ever seen or experienced any problem with her on set. Other than third-hand reports in the media, I never even knew she had this position.”
When the interviewer noted that Wright shared an anti-vax video on Twitter, Duke further explained, “There wasn’t anything where it was like, ‘We can’t do something today ’cause Letitia can’t be here,’ We’ve never had an on-set problem with Letitia and her alleged stance.” The actor’s comments are in alignment with the responses of the other people in production who have addressed the alleged controversy in the past. Despite the reports, Wright was active during the press tour for the film and was seen interacting with her co-stars. In the same interview, producer Nate Moore pointed out that they were more willing to be patient during the making of the film since they have to deal with both the COVID-19 pandemic and the loss of their star Chadwick Boseman. “There was always the willingness to be more patient, the willingness to be patient with the creative team, with Ryan, with this very unique situation that no one could control,” he noted.
